Rack -A- Round
Rules and Regulations
Object of the Game
The object of the game is for each player to shoot either all seven solid or all seven striped balls,
in designated pockets, followed by the eight ball last, before his or her opponent does so.
Getting
Started
To start the game, the rack is placed in the center of the billiard table.
The balls are then placed in the rack so that they are alternating solids and stripes, with the last ball being the (black)
eight ball.
The players may 'lag' or flip a coin to determine who starts the game. The winner is Player 1.The player who loses the flip (Player 2) may rotate the rack to the position he or she desires
and the rack is lifted gently, leaving the balls in a circular pattern in the center of the table.
Play Ball !
The winner of the toss (Player 1) may place the (white) cue ball anywhere within the center of the
circular pattern. Before shooting, Player 1 must declare whether he or she is shooting for solid or
striped balls, and he or she must 'call' (declare a designated pocket) before for each shot.
If Player 1 misses the first shot, it then becomes Player 2's turn. Player 2 has the right to declare whether he or
she is shooting for solid or striped balls, and he or she must 'call' (declare a designated pocket) before
for each shot.
The pattern continues until a Player knocks his or her first ball into the designated pocket.
The first Player to knock a ball into the designated pocket continues to shoot for the same type of ball
(either solid or striped) for the rest of the game.
The following shots result in a loss of turn:
1. missed shots
2. object ball knocked into a pocket not designated by the player
The following shots are considered a foul and result in a loss of turn, with the opponent getting the
cue ball and placing it anywhere on the table:
1. scratches (knocks in the cue ball)
2. contacts an opponent's ball before the Player's ball
3. knocks any ball off the table. Any ball knocked off the table (excluding cue ball)
should be placed in a pocket.
When Player 1 has lost his or her turn, it is Player 2's turn. Player 2 shoots at the opposite set of
balls (for example, if Player 1 shot at striped balls, Player 2 must shoot at solid balls).
The Winner Is...
In order to win, a player must knock in the eight ball last, after he or she has knocked in all of the
seven solid or striped balls. If a Player knocks the eight ball into a pocket before he or she has knocked
in all of the striped or solid balls, or if he or she knocks the eight ball into any pocket other than the
designated pocket, or knocks the eight ball off the table, then that Player automatically loses
and the game is over.
Rack-A-Round
Speed Pool
Add a thrilling element to
your game by playing against the clock. Start the clock when the cue
stick first hits the cue ball, stop it when the last object ball is off
the table. The competitor with the shortest time wins. Rack-A-Round
Speed Pool is the new hit billiard game in Las Vegas, and it's catching
on all across the U.S.
These are the suggested rules of the game, based on the standard rules
of billiards. Feel free to experiment, make up your own rules and versions,
and enjoy your Rack-A-Round!
